Manchester United vs Stoke City Review

Well what can I say about that game well there where a lot of ups and downs in that game and we now come out of the match with four wins on the bounce and with out Rooney and Di Maria will give a huge boost of confidence to the squad. What are the positives we can take from this match? Well one thing is that we managed to grind out a result which has not seen like that for a long time also another positive is that we look to be building a partnership in defence that seems to talk and understand each other in Rojo and Smalling who had a solid game last night. What are the negatives we can take out of this game? Well sadly RVP seemed to let the game past him and looked isolated at the top and Herrera as well didn’t look to be at the races and gave the ball away too much and couldn’t handle the physicality of the opposition. So how did we play as a team? Considering we didn’t have our best two players on the pitch we looked average but the better side but in the second we dominated and that showed in scoring a second goal. Before I go into my player ratings I thought I would mention the referee Jonathan moss who had a nightmare of a match and to say was poor is an understatement he should have sent at least 2 Stoke players off and for the goal that they scored the play should have been stopped due to the fact that Fellaini got kicked in the neck/head area and was left on the ground and given that referees are meant to stop the game when a head injury is accrued to see if the player can continue or has concision. But I don’t want to sound like I am complaining about the ref because he did not give the decisions to united the point I am making just image if that was a serious injury as a concision the referee would be held responsible for why he did not stop the match.

So now for my player ratings.

De Gea: 8

Had a great game and made a great save to keep us getting 3 points out of the match.

Rojo: 7

First half was nervy but grew into the game and gave a solid performance.

Smalling: 9

For me looked the strongest player on the pitch and sniffed out any danger that was brought on by the opposition and played the ball out of the back well to put the opposition under pressure.

Herrera: 6

A lot of media reviewers are giving him a high score but for me didn’t do well at all apart from setting up the first goal and gave the ball away too much for my liking and never got to grips with the physicality of the game. This could be down to he is not fully fit.

Fellaini: 7

Had a good game and did well to get his goal and was solid all round. Also did well in defensive duties.

Valencia: 6

Did ok in tracking back when on the back foot and well in attack drawing fouls from the opposition but again crossing was poor and wild as usual.

Carrick: 7

In my opinion had a quiet game but kept us ticking and did well in giving defence protection when on the back foot.

Young: 7

Did well and did a job for his team also made a great clearance off the line at the end of the game so we could take the three points.

Mata: 7

Did well and got a lucky goal for his effort and played some good touches to link up the play with the attack but not at his best.

Van Persie: 4

Did not have the best game and looked isolated and stationary also looked like he was tired it may be time to rest him for the next game.

Wilson: 8

Did well and looked lively and pulled defenders away from play so we could make chances also did well on feeding on scraps deserves another start against Southampton.

Fletcher: 6

Came on for Herrera and did well in making the midfield more solid when on the back foot.

Falcao: 7

Looked lively and made good runs to create chances for other player and will be able to get some form if he can stay fit.

Januzaj: N/A

Came on too late to have an effect on the game.

My man of the match:

My man of the match is Smalling for how well he has improved and for a solid performance and playing the ball out of the back. Lets just hope he can continue this in the next match against one of our top four opposition.

So our next match is Southampton which will be tough fixture as they are one of our opponents for a top four position at the moment and don’t forget there will be a preview on this match up late tomorrow evening.

I would love to hear your opinion on this match and how you do this by leaving me a comment below or tweeting me @theunitedwrap and don’t forget to share the blog around to your MUFC mates. Once again thanks for reading and showing your support to the united wrap.
